What Exactly is Tokens?
Tokens are basically device minutes in the cloud. Each token equals one testing minute.
When you open a device in manual mode or when you run an automated test on devices, you are reserving the device for execution. Reserving the device means that it is exclusively yours and cannot be used by anyone else until you release the device. To reserve the device, you need to commit tokens in order to validate the device reservation. Committing tokens doesn't require any special actions; simply opening a device or executing an automated test takes care of that for you.
How Many Tokens Do I Have?
The amount of tokens you have is determined by the plan you have chosen. The amount of tokens you have is displayed in the cloud next to your username.
Examples of Token Usage
Opening a device in manual mode - When you open a device in manual mode, you reserve the device for 30 minutes. Accordingly, 30 tokens are deducted from your account. If you work on the device for 20 minutes and then release the device, the 10 tokens that were not used are added back to your account.
Running an automated test - When you execute an automated Selenium or Appium test, the device is automatically reserved for one hour and 60 tokens are deducted from your account because there is no way of knowing how long the test would take. If the test ran for 5 minutes, the 55 tokens that were not used are added back to your account, effectively deducting only 5 tokens.
